Digital and Sustainable Transformation Gains Momentum in Vietnam’s Textile Industry
20. November 2025At an international workshop held in Hà Nội on November 19, representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) discussed accelerating digital transformation and sustainable practices within the textile and garment sector. IDC Director Chu Việt Cường emphasized the global shift toward automation, noting that technologies such as AI-powered production lines, sewing robots, and automated cutting systems are helping Vietnamese firms enhance productivity, reduce labor reliance, and improve product consistency. Additionally, AI-driven tools like 3D design, lifecycle management, and traceability are playing a critical role in the industry’s transition to low-emission and circular production models. Equipment and components used in the textile industry usually require CR certification in order to be approved for import and sale in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s textile enterprises are now under pressure to adopt both digital and green transitions simultaneously. VITAS Vice Chairman Trương Văn Cẩm highlighted that modernization is essential amid intensifying global environmental regulations and market demands. The Republic of Korea remains a major foreign investor in Vietnam’s textile sector, contributing nearly $6 billion across over 1,000 projects. While automation is well-established in areas like fabric inspection and packaging, sewing remains less advanced. Experts proposed AI vision systems and robotic packaging solutions as part of the development roadmap. On the sustainability front, Cold-Pad-Batch dyeing has emerged as a promising low-emission technology, significantly reducing resource consumption and CO₂ emissions. Digital tools from platforms like Adobe and CLO Virtual Fashion are also enabling faster, more sustainable design and production, with the potential to replace up to 90% of physical samples. With 85% of Vietnam’s textile output destined for export, compliance with global standards on labor, environmental protection, and sustainability is now a business imperative.
