Vietnam Accelerates Infrastructure Expansion with High-Value Projects
15. January 2026Vietnam is rapidly expanding its infrastructure footprint with major developments underway across the country. On December 19, the first passenger flights arrived at Long Thanh International Airport, a strategic project located 40 kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City, which is expected to surpass Tan Son Nhat Airport as Vietnam’s primary aviation hub. This event is part of a broader nationwide initiative marked by accelerated execution and substantial public investment. Vietnam currently leads ASEAN in infrastructure spending, with more than 230 projects either launched or initiated on December 19 alone. These projects, totaling 3,400 trillion dong (approximately S$166.6 billion), reflect the country’s strategic objective to bolster economic growth beginning in 2026. Many materials and equipment used in such construction projects usually require CR certification in order to be approved for import and sale in Vietnam.

The scope of development is extensive, ranging from transport infrastructure—such as expanded airports, high-speed rail connections to China, and metro systems in key cities—to new industrial zones, hospitals, power facilities, and tourism centers. Among the most prominent is Hanoi’s planned Olympic Sports City, a 9,000-hectare complex valued at US$35 billion, aimed at hosting major international events by 2030. The December initiative significantly outpaces a similar round in August, which included more projects in number but only a third of the investment scale. According to the Ministry of Construction, by December 19, 2025, Vietnam is expected to have completed over 3,500 kilometers of highways and finalized the first phase of Long Thanh International Airport, which will initially accommodate 25 million passengers.
