Vietnam Strengthens CR Compliance Rules for Electronic and Electrical Products
5. February 2026Vietnam has become an increasingly important destination for exports of electronic and electrical products, computers, electronic devices, and related components. To regulate market entry, Vietnam enforces strict compliance requirements under its Law on Product and Goods Quality, requiring products to meet applicable technical regulations and successfully complete conformity assessment procedures. Electronic and electrical products usually require CR certification in order to be approved for import and sale in Vietnam.
The CR certification framework is administered by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), with oversight delegated to the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ). STAMEQ authorizes the Vietnam Certification Centre (QUACERT) to issue certificates and appoints designated testing laboratories under the QUATEST system. The scheme covers mandatory safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) certification for a defined range of household and similar electrical products, including appliances such as water heaters, fans, microwave ovens, LED lamps, and washing machines. Applicants must submit technical documentation, test reports from approved laboratories, and quality management evidence, and comply with relevant safety and EMC regulations such as QCVN 4:2009/BKHCN and QCVN 9:2012/BKHCN. Certified products must display the CR mark in accordance with prescribed format and durability requirements.
