Vietnam’s Electronics Trade hits New Highs in First Half of 2025

21. August 2025

Vietnam recorded unprecedented import levels in the first half of 2025, with total imports climbing to more than 210 billion USD — nearly 18% higher than in the same period last year. This marks the strongest half-year figure ever reported and already exceeds the full-year totals of several earlier years. Electronic products usually require CR certification in order to be approved for import and sale in Vietnam.

Computers, electronic products, and related components drove much of this growth, reaching close to 68 billion USD in imports during the first six months. This represents growth of over one-third compared with the previous year and makes up nearly one-third of Vietnam’s overall imports. Remarkably, imports in this category have already surpassed the entire 2020 figure. Mainland China remained the largest supplier, followed by South Korea and Taiwan, with Japan also playing a key role.

The electronics industry is also dominant in exports. By mid-2025, exports of computers and electronic products contributed more than 38 billion USD, accounting for a sharp rise of around 40% compared to the same period in 2024. This strong performance has offset notable declines in agricultural exports such as rice and coffee, underscoring the sector’s role as one of the main pillars of Vietnam’s economy.
